The AI Engine Room

If AI is the future, why are most organisations building it on foundations from the past?

“Nearly 3 out of 4 companies face challenges in scaling AI projects beyond the pilot phase”

BCG, 2025

AI investments are doubling year on year, yet 74% of initiatives still stall at the pilot stage [BCG, 2025]. Tech executives highlight the usual suspects for this failure: siloed data, outdated infrastructure, and legacy tech. And they’re not wrong, but they only tell half the story.

Systems once considered the backbone of operational efficiency can no longer keep pace with the speed and complexity AI demands. And with tools like ECM having been around for decades, chasing AI ambitions without modernising this layer is like renovating a mansion on feeble foundations. The structure might look impressive, but it’s destined to collapse.

So, what is the modern approach to modernisation? And what steps can you take to build an architecture agile enough to keep pace with AI?

Despite widespread AI adoption, only 1% have successfully scaled AI across their operations [McKinsey, 2024]

"Companies are investing billions into AI tools, but the failure rate of AI projects remains high" [Forbes, 2025]
