The Government’s aim is for public sector services to rival those of the private sector by 2025. But this can’t be achieved without the right foundations in place. As a senior executive, how will you rethink your data strategy to close the gap in 2024?
The UK Public Sector is striving to drive meaningful digital transformation. Despite taking steps with the Central Digital and Data Office in 2021, a long journey remains. With 20% of the government’s 3-year plan achieved, the focus now shifts from foundational changes to the more complex aspects of digital modernisation [Gov UK, 2023].
Most of the public sector are still operating with outdated tech-stacks and legacy in-house datacentres underlying critical national infrastructure, which not only hinder operational performance, but also introduce their own set of complications. The difficulty of transitioning away from legacy technology is exacerbated by the sensitive nature of the data at hand, as well as concerns over reputational risk and excessive stakeholder management, ultimately preventing public sector organisations from successfully adopting the latest technologies, such as AI, which will be the lynchpin for meaningful digital change in the future.
We’re committed to supporting our society and environment. When you attend a Change Makers Club event, we pledge to neutralise your carbon footprint. To offset your travel or energy usage we will plant a tree via One Tree Planted. Once mature, the average tree has a net absorption of 30 kg of CO2 per year, which equates to 227 miles of travel by car or 96 hours of office usage. You can see our maths here.
