“The CPG industry must rekindle growth when it’s scarce, and reduce costs when a lot has already been done”
McKinsey, 2024
Growth in the CPG industry has slowed dramatically to just 2%, and shareholder returns have fallen to the bottom quartile (McKinsey, 2024). In response, executives are prioritising short term cost cutting and margin maximisation. But it’s a downward spiral.
The real issue? A long term lack of investment. Many businesses have been living with the same underlying problems for years; same tech, same processes, same pain points. So why would 2025 be any different? More cost cutting won’t fix a decade-long slump.
The 4% of companies leading in digital transformation are delivering 1.5x higher revenue growth (BCG, 2024). So what can you do to break the mould and catch up with the leaders of the pack?

1
“Shareholder returns in the CPG sector have fallen from the top to the bottom quartile” [McKinsey 2024]
2
“83% of CPG companies rank innovation as a top 3 priority, yet only 3% are ready to deliver” [BCG 2024]
3
“86% of investors want companies to prioritise innovation initiatives”
[BCG 2024]
